It was reported by Alaska State Trooper dispatch that Tuesday morning at about 8:22 am Alaska State Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle in the Big Lake Road area.
The vehicle did not stop and the trooper pursued the vehicle for about ten minutes.
After the chase, the vehicle finally came to a stop and the driver exited the vehicle. But, then the driver fired shots. It is unknown if the shots were directed at the trooper. The trooper called for backup and reported no injuries.

The Alaska State Trooper Special Emergency Reaction Team was then activated and the search for the fleeing man began but SERT was called off of the search later in the day.
Troopers notified residents of the Big Lake area that the search for the man in the incident was underway. They were advised not to pick up any hitchhikers and to not answer any knocks on their doors unless it was law enforcement.
The man has been described as of possibly Asian descent and approximately 5-foot 7-inches tall with short hair.
A perimeter was set up and motorists were turned away from the location. That perimeter is no longer in effect.
Because the active search has been called off, that does not mean that troopers are no longer looking for the man. Some troopers will remain in the area and the search is merely being scaled back.
Troopers are requesting that if they have any information on the fleeing suspect or if they see anything suspicious to please contact them at (907) 352-5401.
