Alaska State Troopers revealed the name of the avalanche victim who died near the Nelchina Glacier on Saturday as 50-year-old Randy Pratt of Anchorage, the trooper dispatch reported on Sunday.
It was early afternoon on Saturday that Alaska State Troopers and Alaska Wildlife Troopers from Glennallen responded to a report of an avalanche with victims south of the Eureka Lodge near the Nelchina Glacier. They had received a report saying that two subjects had been caught in an avalanche at that location and were still unaccounted for.
As troopers responded to the scene via snow-machine, Helo 2 also responded after picking up a trooper spotter at the Eureka Lodge. When they arrived at the avalanche site, they recovered Pratt’s remains. Troopers reported that all other subjects were accounted for.
The trooper dispatch reported that “Due to hazardous conditions Helo 2 loaded the deceased male and quickly departed the area transporting the body to the State Medical Examiner in Anchorage.”
With the assistance of the Anchorage Police Department, troopers were able to contact and notify next of kin of Pratt’s death.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
