An accident between a Kenworth tractor, a motorcycle and a 1993 Dodge pickup prompted troopers to the scene at a highway work zone on the Sterling on Friday evening.
Troopers responded to mile 79.5 to the scene of an injury accident on the Sterling Highway at 4:38 pm on Friday.
The trooper investigation at the scene revealed that a white Kenworth tractor with double trailers driven by 44-year-old Gene Davis came to a construction area where vehicles were stopped by a flagger. Davis attempted to stop and avoid the other vehicles stopped at the site, but as he was doing so, part of his rear trailer struck 53-year-old Daniel Jared Riggs on his 2007 Honda motorcycle.
When struck, Riggs’ motorcycle was pushed forward into the Dodge pickup driven by 73-year-old James Sumner of Indian. Riggs suffered minor injuries in the accident.
All vehicles suffered only minor damage and were able to be driven from the scene. Davis and Sumner were wearing seat belts and Riggs was reported to be wearing a helmet.
Davis was issued a citation for Failure to Exercise Due Care to Avoid Collision.
