A Homer police officer was patrolling East End Road near the Paul Banks Elementary School at just before 5 am on Wednesday when he observed two people wrestling outside a residence next to Blackwell Pump Services across the street from the school.

Moments later, a shot rang out. The bullet, from a handgun struck the ground. The victim who was involved in the altercation, suffered a head injury in the incident.

The patrolling officer immediately called for backup. More officers from the department arrived at the scene in tactical equipment and with assault rifles.

But, the suspects had fled the scene.

The victim would report that there had been a second individual with a firearm at the scene.

The two suspects, identified as Joshua Lathrop and Kirk Damon, were found at their homes. Both were placed under arrest. The two men told police that the incident was a direct result of their belief that the victim had stolen from them.

Charges are pending in the case, and as of Thursday morning, nothing has been filed on the online court records.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
