Two people were killed and another seven taken to the hospital on Saturday night at 11 pm when a massive explosion rocked a neighborhood in south Indianapolis.
The huge explosion spawned a massive fire. The explosion and fire destroyed and damaged three dozen homes. The huge explosion shattered windows and crumpled walls. The blast could be felt as far as three miles away according to authorities.
After fire-fighters doused the flames, they went house to house digging through rubble looking for survivors. Two adults and two children were pulled from the wreckage of their burning home close to the blast.
Two others were retrieved from the wreckage of the home where the blast originated. Although authorities have not disclosed the identities of those killed, individuals in the neighborhood claim that the two were a school teacher and her husband.
Although the source of the explosion has not yet been determined, the Department of Homeland Security ruled out the possiblity of a bomb or a meth lab.
About 200 people, clad in pajamas and night-clothes, some clinging to pets, were evacuated and taken to a nearby elementary school. From there many went on to hotels,reletives or friends but about two dozen stayed behind at the make-shift evacuation center.
