Two teenagers hiking on the West Glacier Trail near Juneau called in to 911 to report that they had become lost during their hike and needed assistance.
The two Juneau boys, Cody d Eyre and Daniel H Shimabukuro, both 16-years-old, related to authorities that they were lost, were cold, and were unprepared for night-time travel. The teens also reported to dispatch that one of them had fallen into the water just before darkness fell and both were feeling cold and numb in their hands and feet.
The Alaska State Troopers coordinated a response with the United States Forest Service, SEADOGS, Juneau Mountain Rescue, Capital City Fire and Rescue, and the Juneau Police Dispatch Center.
Both of the hikers were located by searchers and were transported to the West Glacier Trailhead via snow machine where they underwent an initial evaluation by EMS. One of the hikers, Shimabukuro, was transported further to the Bartlett Regional Hospital for further observation.
Eyre was released to his parents.
