ALASKA-Two small planes collided mid-air over Lake Clark Pass at 2,300 feet on Sunday afternoon, but were able to land safely in Anchorage after the incident. Neither pilot saw the other until the impact was imminent. No one was injured in the accident.

The two planes involved were a Piper Navajo operated by Lake Clark Air, and a Cessna 206 float-plane owned by Donald Creamer of Anchorage. The Navajo had 9 people aboard including the pilot, the 206 had four aboard.

The pilots were flying visual flight rules in uncontrolled airspace. The pilots should have been on the lookout for each other, investigations will try to uncover why this was not so.

The Piper Navajo made it to Merrill Field, where it landed safely. The Cessna made it to Lake Hood, where it had to be towed to the shore as one of its floats were damaged in the collision.

NTSB is investigating.
