On Saturday, State Troopers in Unalakleet were notified of a vehicle ablaze on the Old Dump road.
Upon their arrival at the scene, troopers found that someone had stolen one of the Unalakleet Police Department police vehicles and drove it to that spot on the Old Dump Road and set it on fire.
One of the people involved was tracked out onto the ice of Norton Sound. He had walked approximately three miles out on the ice before passing out due to alcohol consumption.
He was also discovered to be suffering from the effects of hypothermia, he was transported to the Unalakeet Health Clinic where he recieved treatment. After his recovery from the cold, it was determined that he had suffered no further injuries and was released from the facility.
Alaska State troopers say that they have the names of suspects in the incident and that when the investigation is complete, charges will be leveled against the individuals responsible. At this time, no names have been released in the case. Troopers say charges of Vehicle Theft in the First Degree, Arson in the First Degree and Criminal Mischief in the First Degree are forthcoming.
