A crash on the Seward Highway claimed the life of one after a rollover at mile 88 on Wednesday.
At 8:19 pm, Alaska State Troopers out of Girdwood and the Bureau of Highway Patrol-Kenai Peninsula Team responded to the rollover crash that involved a Chevy van and two occupants. When they arrived at the scene, their investigation found that the van was travelling northbound when the driver crossed over through the southbound lane and crashed into the guardrail.
As a result of the collision with the guardrail, a female occupant in the vehicle was ejected and when the van rolled over coming to rest in the middle of the highway, landed on the woman.
The woman was pronounced deceased at the scene. The woman’s remains were released to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage.
The van was impounded at the scene and the investigation into the crash is continuing.
