Virginia State Police responded to the home of a Virginia State Senator at 7:25 am on Tuesday morning to find the son of Senator Creigh Deeds' Gus Deeds, dead from a gunshot would according to reports.
According to Virginia State Police, Deeds himself was airlifted from his cousin’s home earlier with multiple stab wounds to the head and upper torso.
Police are still investigating how the incident played out at the Senator’s home, but report that they are not looking for any additional suspects at this time. According to police, the only two people at the scene at the time of the incident were the Senator and his son.
Senator Deeds is reported to have left his home after the incident, and wounded, had his cousin pick him up and drive him to his cousin’s farm, where he was later airlifted to the University of Virginia’s Medical Center for treatment of his injuries. Information as to how he contacted his cousin is currently unavailable.
It is unknown whether the Senator’s son, Gus, suffered from a self-inflicted gunshot and additional information is slow to come out on the incident.
Police say the senator suffered serious injuries and is in critical condition.
Senator Deeds, a Democrat age 55, has been a state senate member since 2001 and has previously ran for governor of that state, he ran against Brian Moran and Terry McAuliffe and secured the party nomination but lost to Governor Bob McDonnell in in the general election in 2009.
