A Port Orchard, Washington man is in custody today and being held as the prime suspect in the slaying of his girlfriend on Tuesday.
33-year-old David Kalac was arrested without incident at a transit station 20 miles to the south of Portland on Wednesday. H e had earlier posted online that he wanted authorities to kill him. Kalac is also suspected to be the person that posted the gruesome images of his dead girlfriend on the Internet after her death.
30-year-old Lynn Coplin’s body was discovered by her thirteen-year-old son on Tuesday. The son reported to police that he had heard his mother and Kalac arguing and fighting the night before. He reported that he heard various loud noises consistent with a violent altercation.
Even so, the young boy thought that his mom was sleeping when he left for school the next morning. When he returned, he told authorities that he laid down for a nap and awoke to find his mother’s vehicle gone and then checked on his mother, only to find her unresponsive.
Upon discovering his mother, the boy contacted his father who came by, confirmed that his estranged wife was dead and called 911 at 3:30 pm.
Portland police pursued Kalac in Coplin’s car on Wednesday, but broke off the chase a short time later. The vehicle would later be located, abandoned. Kalac later walked out of the woods near where an officer was patrolling and informed the officer that he had a warrant for his arrest.
Kalac is being held on Murder II charges and his bail is set at $2 million.
