Just prior to 8 pm on the Fourth of July, while traveling southbound on the Seward Highway, towing a boat and trailer, a motorist, later identified as 66-year-old Wasilla resident, Dana Lynn Dobson, lost control and left the roadway.
Troopers, with the Bureau of Highway Patrol-Girdwood Team, arrived at the scene at approximately 7:56 pm, to find that Dobson had driven off the highway near mile 89.5 and ended up in a swamp.
EMS also arrived at the scene and treated Dobson for an undisclosed medical problem. Dobson reported wearing his seatbelt during the incident.
The vehicle, a 1994 Dodge pickup, suffered aproximately $5,000 worth of damage and the trailer in tow suffered about $2,000 damage.
The highway “was sporadically shut down for approximately two hours while the vehicle and boat were towed from the ditch,” the trooper dispatch reported.
Dobson was issued a citation for no current proof of insurance and released from the scene.
