Alaska Wildlife and State Troopers attempted to stop a green 2000 Mazda barreling north at high speed on the Parks Highway near Trunk Road Thursday morning.
It was 10:22 am when troopers attempted to stop the vehicle that was traveling at excessive speeds surpassing 95 mph. The vehicle continued to travel recklessly along the highway disregarding the officers attempts to stop him.
The vehicle then turned off on Old Matanuska Road and encountered a patrol vehicle preparing to lay down Stinger Spike strips in an attempt to stop the eluding vehicle. The driver, later identified as 29-year-old Wasilla resident Harley Ron Debeaulieau, continued head-on at the patrol vehicle, before turning away at the last second narrowly missing the patrol vehicle.

Debeaulieau continued for a distance and then eventually turned on Creekside Drive then down a power-line trail in an attempt to get away from the pursuing officers.The terrain was too much for the Mazda however, and the vehicle got stuck in the mud.
Debeaullieau had decided he wasn’t finished yet however and exited his vehicle. He took of afoot but was apprehended by officers and taken into custody. It was then that Debeaulieau was identified and a short time later his past history was revealed. The eluder was on Felony Probation for Felony DUI.
Debeaulieau was charged with Assault III on a Law Enforcement Officer, Eluding I, Felony DUI, Reckless Driving, DWLR, and Probation Violation.
Palmer Probations was notified of Debeaulieau’s probation violation and his vehicle was impounded.
There were no injuries or damages reported in the incident.
