At 11:43 pm on Friday night, Alaska State Troopers conducted a routine traffic stop on a gray 1997 Jeep Cherokee for numerous equipment violations trooper dispatch reported this morning.
Once stopped and contacted, troopers would find that the driver of the vehicle, 22-year-old Justin Sims, did not have a valid driver’s license. A further investigation of Sims would find that he was also on probation for a previous felony conviction.
When asked, the passenger of the vehicle gave troopers a false name. His name would later be found to be 21-year-old Dalton Jacobs of Wasilla.
As the driver was on probation, troopers conducted a probation search of the vehicle. The search would uncover 2.46 grams of heroin along with items used for distribution.
The passenger, Jacobs would be found to have numerous active warrants for his arrest.
Both the driver, Sims, and the passenger, Jacobs, were placed under arrest and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility in Palmer, where they were remanded.
Sims was charged with Driving without a Valid Driver’s License and violating is probation and held without bail pending arraignment.
Jacobs was charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II, False Information, and for four active warrants. His bail was set at $12,050 cash and a court approved third party custodian.
