On Thursday, August 30th, a Palmer Grand Jury indicted a 60-year-old Willow man for an incident that occurred on November 20th of last year.
On the 20th of November of 2011, at approximately 8:40 pm, Alaska State Troopers were alerted of a shooting that occurred at a residence on South Susitna Drive near mile 91 of the Parks Highway.
Troopers arrived on the scene within five minutes of the call.
The initial investigation by troopers and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation found that 60-year-old James Armstrong of Willow, and 61-year-old Ronald D. Gunter of Talkeetna had gotten into a fight at the residence.

During the fight, Armstrong produced a small caliber pistol and fired a single shot at Gunter. The bullet struck Gunter in the head, killing him.
After a consultation with the investigators, the Palmer District Attorney’s Office decided at that time to make no arrest in the incident. Because no arrest was made, Armstrong’s name was not released to the public.
Gunter’s name was also withheld until his next of kin were located, and they were notified of Gunter’s death.
But, after further details of the shooting came from the Alaska Bureau of Investigation, all of that changed last week, when a Grand Jury out of Palmer handed down a three count indictment against Armstrong. He was charged with two counts of Murder in the Second Degree and a count of Manslaughter.
