Crown Point-based Alaska State troopers were dispatched to Spring Creek Correctional Center in Seward at approximately 5 pm after receiving a report of a 31-year-old female, Amanda Bee of North Pole, at the perimeter of the center with a firearm.

The woman was demanding the release of convicted criminals, who have not been identified. She told prison officials that if her demands were not met, she would kill herself, the trooper dispatch reports.

As State Troopers were in route to the correctional Center, and just prior to arriving, they received information that she had shot herself in the head. The shooting is witnessed by several of the Spring Creek correctional Center officers.

Correctional officers and nurses from the correctional facility immediately initiated CPR on the wounded Bee. They report that at the time that she was being transported to the Seward hospital she was still breathing. Bee later died at the hospital.

No further information have been released by authorities at this time.

Troopers are continuing to investigate the incident.
