At 12:52 am this morning, the Alaska State Troopers received a REDDI call on a vehicle parked at the Alaska RV Park in Wasilla.
When troopers responded, and attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the vehicle at the park, the red 1999 Chevy Trailblazer sped from the scene.
The Trailblazer careened through the park, drove across the Parks Highway and through a ditch on the other side. After a very short pursuit, the two occupants of the vehicle abandoned their vehicle and fled on foot into the woods.
Trooper Canine Roelle and his handler were called to the scene. After arriving, the Canine team tracked for 1.5 miles before locating 27-year-old John F. Caverly of Wasilla attempting to hide under a piece of equipment.
A preliminary investigation at the scene found that Caverly recklessly eluded police, and attempted to conceal the keys to the vehicle he was driving from the officers.
Caverly was arrested and charged with Eluding in the First Degree, Tampering with Physical Evidence, and Reckless Driving.
Troopers transported Caverly to Mat-Su Pretrial and bail was set at $10,000.
