KWIGILLINGOK, Alaska-Alaska State Troopers in Bethel were notified yesterday morning of a aircraft which had crashed near Kwigillingok by the Kwigillingok Public Safety Officer there.
The aircraft, a Cessna 206, belonging to Yute Air, a commercial airline based out of Bethel had crashed during landing at the remote community.
Blaze Highlander, the pilot of the aircraft and the only person aboard at the time of the incident, was transported to the village clinic, evaluated and given initial care for his minor injuries.
The crash occurred about a mile outside of the village and officers from the community responded to the crash site on snow machines.
The National Transportation Safety Board was notified and an investigation to the cause of the crash is under investigation.
Kwigillingok, with a population of 321 people, is located 77 mile southwest of Bethel and is near the mouth of the Kuskokwim River. It is situated 388 miles from Anchorage.
