Another rape in India has been revealed, and thirteen suspects arrested, after the 20-year-old victim reported to police in the West Bengal state that she was raped on orders of the local village council in the village she lived in on Tuesday.

On Thursday, Police officials in India said that the woman reported to them that the Subalpur village council had ordered her and her boyfriend tied to a tree and then told to pay a fine of 25,000 rupees (approximately $400) for having an affair with the man from another village, when she informed the council that her family could not afford the fine, the girl was forcibly moved to a nearby hut where she was raped repeatedly by at least ten men after the council head, Sunil Soren, ordered that she should be “enjoyed” by the men in the village.After ordering her rape, police said that Soren led the rape of the woman.

When the men were done raping her, she was taken to her home and dumped there, the woman and her family told not to report the incident. On Wednesday morning, the woman was taken to the Suri sadar hospital in critical condition. She was tested and admitted to the hospital, after her condition improved slightly, her family helped the girl to report the rape to the police.

When police traveled to Subalpur village to arrest the men accused of the woman’s rape, they met opposition from members of the village, who denied that the rape took place. The villagers held off the officers, and it wasn’t until a larger contingent of police came to the aid of the original officers, were the accused men arrested.

The thirteen suspects were ordered detained for 14 days.

The woman’s boyfriend has also been arrested, it is unclear what he has been charged with.
