A Fairbanks man is in jail and charged with Murder I after an incident off of the Old Steese Highway on Thursday night.
Trooper dispatch reports that a 911 call came in at 10:25 pm on Thursday night reporting that a man had been shot in the head by an acquaintance at an residence on Gold Claim Avenue north of Fairbanks. According to troopers, 47-year-old Chad Zurlo asked someone at the scene to call in the shooting then waited at the scene for troopers to arrive.
Troopers arrived at the scene to find 51-year-old Steven Corcoran’s body in the upstairs bedroom, with a bullet wound to the forehead, and a pistol on the bed. Zurlo, who was on the phone when troopers arrived, didn’t make a statement to the officers. Officers did observe that Zurlo smelled of alcohol and had blood on his clothing.
A witness at the scene said that Zurlo shot Corcoran after an argument.
Zurlo was arraigned on Friday and is being held without bail.
