Troopers on the Parks Highway received a call from a hiker in distress on Sunday at Fox Creek along the Parks Highway and responded to the scene.
When they arrived, they found 18-year-old Cherelle LaGroo stranded on a rock ledge on the side of the mountain there.
Two troopers were able to scale the mountain to the area where LaGroo was stranded. They got to within 20 feet and were able to get a line to her. Two additional troopers arrived at the scene shortly thereafter and managed to climb above LaGroo and get additional lines secured to her. Using a rope, one trooper was able to lower himself down to her as the other pulled LaGroo up to safety.
It was found afterwards, that LaGroo had been hiking on the mountain when she lost her footing and slid approximately 30 feet down the mountainside. She managed to stop herself before she went over the outcropping. She then called for help using her cell phone.
There were no injuries reported in the incident.
