An elderly Eagle River man was shot outside a family cabin in the Bulchitna Lake area south of Skwentna on Tuesday according to the trooper dispatch.
59-year-old Stephen H. Hager was shot and killed while outside the cabin when a firearm was discharged inside the residence near Bulchitna Lake. Troopers received a report of the shooting at 12:15 pm on Tuesday and a Talkeetna-based trooper and the Alaska Bureau of Investigation responded and flew to the scene by floatplane to conduct an investigation of the incident.
AST Spokesman Megan Peters stated that “the shooting appears to be accidental and the investigation is ongoing.” There is no further information being released at this time.
Hager’s remains were transported by troopers to the State Medical Examiner’s office in Anchorage for autopsy.
The investigation into Hager’s death is continuing.
