Almost 400 Talkeetna homes were without power for a time on Thanksgiving day after a vehicle crashed into a power pole at the railroad crossing in Talkeetna early Thursday morning.
Linemen with the Matanuska Electric Association did the repairs on the powerlines. Power to additional homes had to be cut to insure the safety of the workers said MEA.
Because the power pole was part of a critical line for the area and another pole had to brought in and power was disconnected again as the permanent repair was made.
Troopers responded to the crash scene on Thursday morning at the railroad crossing at 3:50 am. When they contacted the driver of the vehicle, 20-year-old Jacob M. Nordman, it was found that he had driven his 1989 Ford F-150 pickup into the power pole while driving impaired.
It was also found during the investigation, that Nordman was wanted in the state of Wisconsin and that an extraditable warrant had been issued for his arrest. Nordman is wanted in that state for a probation violation on charges of Burglary, Criminal Damage to Property and Theft of Movable property.
Nordman was arrested and transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial Facility where he was remanded without bail.
