Fairbanks-based troopers initiated an investigation on March 29th after receiving a call reporting a stolen firearm. On Thursday, troopers would recover the weapon at a dormitory on Fort Wainwright.
Troopers in Fairbanks received a call on Sunday at 4:25 pm reporting a theft at a residence in Fairbanks. When troopers responded to the scene, they would interview the complainant, who would tell them that they had allowed a person to spend the night at their home. They reported that they only knew the person as “Bennie.”
After spending the night, “Bennie,” was given a ride to Fort Wainwright, where he was dropped off. The homeowner told troopers that it wasn’t until later that she discovered her Springfield XD .40 caliber semi-automatic was missing and immediately notified the troopers.
At 11 pm on Thursday, troopers recovered the weapon from the military dormitory at Fort Wainwright. Trooopers say that they have identified a suspect and charges in the case are forthcoming.
