One Attempts Escape During Drug Investigation

Despite an escape attempt by an Anchorage man arrested during a drug sweep, both subjects of the drug arrest were taken into custody on Monday.

State-Wide Drug Enforcement-Mat-Su Unit, along with Anchorage SCIU and Anchorage WAANT concluded an investigation into the importation of heroin into Anchorage from California came to a conclusion at 9:45 pm on Monday.

SDEU investigators contacted Stockton, California resident, 26-year-old Macario  Jose Lopez at a loctl Anchorage hotel and served several warrants.  Investigators would find that Lopez was in possession of approximately 105 grams of heroin. Investigators estimated the street value of the heroin at $31,000.

Lopez was arrested and charged with Misconduct Involving Controlled Substance II and IV.

During there investigation at the hotel, another male came to the scene. Troopers say that when contacted, 26-year-old Anchorage resident Kortland Lee Michael Lynch was found to be in the possession of a loaded handgun and $3,000 in cash. Lynch was arrested on a Misconduct Involving Weapons.

Both men were taken by transport to the Anchorage Jail. During transport, Lynch took off from the vehicle and attempted to escape on foot. After a short chase, Lynch was taken back into custody and an additional charge of Attempted Escape II was leveled at him.

Lopez had his bail set at $5,000 and Lynch had his bail set at $1,000. Both men are required to have a Court Approved Third Party Custodian.
