The State-Wide Emergency Response Team responded to the community of Togiak on Monday morning to take over operations at a barricade scenario that had been playing out since Sunday, the troopers report.
On Sunday morning at 10:30 m pm, troopers were informed of a firearm incident in Togiak. It was reported at that time that 22-year-old Michael Poulson had threatened a family member with a weapon while drinking. That person fled the home and called in to troopers.
It was reported that Poulson could be heard threatening to come out of the house and break the door windows of the next door neighbor. He then barricaded himself into the residence.
Troopers responded to the scene in Togiak, but were unable to initiate contact with Poulson. As the day progressed into evening, “multiple rifle shots were heard from inside,” troopers said in the trooper dispatch.
Troopers also stated that “Based on the barricade situation, members of the AST Special Emergency Reaction Team (SERT) were deployed to Togiak along with a trained negotiator.”
When they arrived at 9:30 am Monday morning, they relieved the personnel that had been on-duty at the scene through the night.
A negotiator with SERT was able to establish contact with Poulson, and at 11 am, Poulson gave himself up to officers. Poulson was arrested on charges of Assault III(DV) and Misconduct Involving Weapons IV.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
