A man is in critical condition in an Anchorage hospital after being discovered by a citizen after stumbling out of the woods near Edinburgh and Selkirk Drive bleeding from multiple wounds the Anchorage Police report.
The man was found late Wednesday night at approximately 9:11 pm by a citizen in the area. At first, the man was thought to be suffering multiple knife wounds. When found, the victim was barely responsive. Police and medics responded and the man was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
Police conducted a search of the area to look for clues and determine what took place. Working with medical staff, police have determined that the man likely suffered a bear attack.
The man, still in critical condition, has yet to be interviewed. Officers notified Fish and Game of the incident, and on Thursday, Wildlife biologists reported that they killed a Black Bear in the vicinity of the suspected mauling.
Authorities will not know if the bear was involved in the mauling until DNA samples can be compared from the victim and bear.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]
