WASHINGTON, Dec. 29, 2011 – An Afghan-led, coalition-supported security force captured a Taliban leader in the Ghorak district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province today, military officials reported.
The leader constructed roadside bombs and coordinated attacks in the Sangin Valley.
In other Afghanistan operations today:
— A combined Afghan and coalition security force seized a large amount of hashish in the Panjwa‘i district of Afghanistan’s Kandahar province. The cache contained about 2,200 pounds of hashish. The security force destroyed the drugs.
— A combined force captured a Taliban leader, detained two other suspects, and seized firearms and knives in the Gardez district of Paktiya province. The leader constructed bombs and planned attacks in the district.
In Afghanistan operations yesterday:
— A combined patrol discovered a cache containing nearly 12,000 pounds of homemade explosives in the Spin Boldak district of Kandahar province. The explosives were destroyed.
— A combined patrol discovered a drug cache containing a total of about 1,500 pounds of marijuana and hashish in the Panjwa‘i district of Kandahar province. The drugs were destroyed.
In Dec. 27 Afghanistan operations:
— A combined patrol detained two suspects and seized about 210 pounds of hashish in the Murghab district of Badghis province.
