JUNEAU, Alaska — The Alaska Department of Labor and Workforce Development will close the Glennallen Job Center on Friday, April 20. The Glennallen Job Center is the least active of the department’s 15 job center locations and it is estimated the closure will save approximately $139,000 per year in federal funds. This savings is necessary to address increasing operating costs for the remaining job centers given the overall decrease in federal job center funding over the past 17 years. The federal funds saved by closing the Glennallen Job Center will be used to operate the department’s remaining job centers.
“The department is committed to ensuring Glennallen area job seekers and employers continue to have access to our services,” said Labor Commissioner Heidi Drygas.
Employers can post job openings and recruitments online through the Alaska Labor Exchange system (ALEXsys). Job seekers can conduct job searches online through ALEXsys and file for unemployment insurance online through myAlaska. Equipment from the Glennallen Job Center will be donated to the Copper Valley Community Library to enhance their ability to provide internet access to the public.
