MEXICO CITY-Mexican authorities captured Jose Antonio Acosta Hernandez, also know as "El Diego," on Saturday. Hernandez was one of Mexco's most wanted criminals and the leader of the drug gang, La Linea, a Juarez Cartel arm responsible for a multitude of killings in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua's capital.
Eduardo Pequeno, head of the Mexican Federal Anti-drug Police unit, made a statement Sunday that Hernandez,”said he ordered the killings of about 1,500 people, mostly in Ciudad Juarez and Chihuahua’s capital.” Hernandez also told Mexican authorities that his criminal organization targeted police, government officials, rival drug gangs, and civilians. He is also accused of being connected to the 2010 killing of a state prosecutor, a car bombing outside a police station, and slaying fifteen students at a house party.
Pequeno also stated that collaboration with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration led the Mexican authorities to detaining “El Diego.”
