Republicans in Iowa, according to the last Rasmussen Reports telephone poll, are beginning to line up behind Texas Governor Rick Perry. Their telephone survey shows Perry as the first place choice for president among Republicans in the state with 29%. The poll was conducted on 862 likely Republican voters.

Michele Bachmann, Congresswoman from Minnesota and former Governor of Massachusetts, basically are sharing second place at least 11% behind with 18% and 17% respectively. The poll also shows Ron Paul trailing in the top four with 14% of the vote. Pre-Perry, one month ago, Bachmann and Romney had shared the lead.

These results are comparable to the National polls taken last month and released on August 16th. That poll showed Perry in the lead with 29%, Romney in second with 17% and Bachmann trailing third with 13%. Sixteen% were undecided in that poll. That poll was conducted on 1000 likely Republican voters.

In polls released on September 1st by Rasmussen Reports, Perry has a three percent lead over President Obama Nationally. Those numbers were 44% for Perry, 41% for Obama.

Men preferred Perry over Obama by 9%, while women preferred Obama 5% over Perry. In the poll, people under 30 still preferred Obama, while the over t30 crown preferred Perry. This poll was conducted on 1,000 likely voters.

Also, Rasmussen says all Republican contenders trail Obama by only single digits.

All polls were conducted by Pulse Opinion research and have a margin of sampling error of +/-3%.
