A small ash cloud was observed from the Kanaga volcano on Saturday, and seismic activity was reported, prompting the raising of the alert level on that volcano.
The Alaska Volcano Observatory raised the alert level for Kanaga, situated on one of the southern-most islands of the Aleutian Chain at 1:12 pm on Saturday. This after observing a small ash cloud drifting to the northeast from the volcanoes cone. Tremors were also detected. Those tremors continued for approximately one hour after the initial event.
AVO says this new unrest indicates the possibility of suddden explosions of ash that can occur at any time. Seismic activity continues.
The last eruption of Kanaga was recorded in 11994-1995. Two significant ash plumes were recorded for that event.
