Late Wednesday evening, at 9:37 pm, the Bureau of Highway Patrol and Palmer-based State Troopers responded to the scene of a head-on collision at the intersection of Bogard Road and the Seward Meridian Highway.

An investigation at the scene showed that 52-year-old Sherie Olson of Wasilla was driving a 1995 Ford Sedan east on Bogard Road and entering the Seward Meridian intersection, when 21-year-old Jacquline Valenzuela, also of Wasilla, while traveling west on the same road attempted to turn left at the intersection.

Valenzuela, driving a 2008 Dodge pickup, collided head on with Olson at the intersection. The resulting crash trapped Olson in her vehicle. EMS extricated Olson from the vehicle and transported her by LifeFlight helicopter to Providence Hospital in Anchorage for treatment of her injuries. Valenzuela was transported to Mat-Su Regional Medical Center for treatment as well.

Damage to Valenzuela’s vehicle was estimated at $4,000, Olson’s vehicle was a total loss.

Valenzuela was cited for Failure to Yield When Turning Left as well as Driving with License Suspended.

As the investigation into the collision continued, a vehicle sped through the investigation scene at the intersection at 11:55 pm. Officers conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle, driven by 29-year-old Amy L. Padie, of Houston. Further investigation found that Padie was Driving Under the Influence of Controlled Substances. She had an 18-month-old infant in the vehicle with her.

When stopped, the report states that Padie attempted to conceal heroin and methamphetamine on the infant in an attempt to evade discovery.

When officers attempted to arrest Padie, she resisted, but was taken into custody.

Padie was transported to the Mat-Su Pretrial facility on $15,000 bail and Court Appointed Third Party. She was charged with DUI, MICS IV, Resisting Arrest, Tampering with Physical Evidence, Endangering the Welfare of a Child I and II, and two counts of MICS I.
