The Fairbanks man, 36-year-old Nyrobbie Chandler, who killed his girlfriend Kaylynn Bishop, pled guilty in a Fairbanks courtroom on Wednesday to Second-Degree Murder.
Chandler faces as much as 75 years for the murder of Bishop and tampering with evidence of his crime. The murder was carried out in early May of last year. Investigators believe she was strangled to death on May 6th. Her remains were found by a passerby at mile 357 of the Richardson Highway partially buried behind an abandoned vehicle.
The case carried on for over three months without an arrest. Investigators with the Alaska Bureau of Investigaton said at the time of his arrest in August of 2012 that they had been waiting on forensic evidence results before going forward with the arrest of Chandler.
Chandler initially attempted to cover up his part in Bishop’s death by sending numerous text messages to her places of employment in the days following her death saying that she would be missing work as she was taking a trip to Chena Hotsprings.
He also texted the owner of an apartment and attempted to retrieve the $400 deposit that Bishop had put down on the rental. She had been attempting to leave Chandler but never had the chance as she was killed before she could do so according to the Fairbanks News Miner.
Chandler told investigators that Bishop had come home late from work as a waitress at the Hideout Bar at which time she recieved a call from someone he didn’t know and left with that person. Investigators could not find any record of that supposed call.
Investigators would discover blood mixed with oil in the trunk of Chandler’s vehicle. Investigators say that Chandler tore out the carpeting and attempted to cover up the blood with oil. Tests of the substance came back positive for Bishop’s blood.
Investigators said Chandler’s motive was jealousy.
Chandler’s sentencing hearing is scheduled for early November.
