It was reported that on Sunday that a man was missing after swimming approximately 200 yards from shore and on his return swim back to the shore ran into difficulties and disappeared under the surface of the water.

Witnesses told the Alaska State Troopers that 32-year-old man had called out for help after swimming a considerable distance from shore at the Chena Lakes Recreational Area. Bystanders on the shore immediately jumped into the water to assist the swimmer, but soon after calling out, he disappeared beneath the surface and did not come up again.
The Fort Wainwright Fire Department dispatched divers to search for the man but poor water visibilty hindered their search. The Fairbanks Fire Department responded and began dredging the lake in an effort to locate the man’s remains while the North Star Volunteer Fire Department searched the waters with a side sonar scanner. The efforts of the various fire departments ended with no results on Sunday
Search efforts continued on Monday, and at 12:40 pm, the man’s body was recovered from the lake.
The man’s identity was not made public. His name will be released in accordance with the Department of Defense’s name release policy.
The man’s next of kin were notified.
