Details are scant on an Officer-Involved shooting that took place near the Seward Meridian Highway last night at 9:07 pm.
According to the trooper dispatch released on Monday morning, troopers responded to a report of an impaired driver on the Seward Meridian and responded to the area. After arriving near the scene, troopers and a Wasilla Police Officer attempted to pull the vehicle over and a car chase ensued.
It was sometime during that time that troopers report that the driver was fired upon by a trooper. That trooper’s name is being withheld per department policy.
The driver of the vehicle was pronounced dead at the scene. The passenger of the vehicle sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
No troopers were injured in the incident.
The Alaska Bureau of Investigations assumed the responsibility as investigators in the incident and the case is being investigated by the bureau and the Wasilla Police Department.
The investigation is continuing, and further information is unavailable but should be available later today.
