In what Kodiak police are calling the largest drug bust ever made by the Kodiak Police Department, on arrest was made and nearly 2 ounces of heroin and more than a pound and a half of methamphetamine were seized from room 110 of the Russian heritage in in a raid mid morning on Saturday.
Kodiak police estimate the street value of the drugs seized at approximately $2.2 million.
According to the Kodiak Police Department, the suspect, 44-year-old Washington state resident Eric R McDaniel, who has been under investigation since he arrived in Kodiak nearly 4 months ago, was lured from his hotel room on Saturday morning and arrested. Subsequent to his arrest, McDaniel’s hotel room was searched and a large stash of illicit drugs were found.
During the police operation, McDaniel’s girlfriend fled the scene.
McDaniel, who is known to have at least seven prior felony drug convictions, was charged with Misconduct Involving a Controlled Substance II and III. He was arraigned in front of Judge Steve Cole in Kodiak District Court on Sunday. McDaniel’s bail was set at arraignment at $1 million.
