An early morning accident took the life of 21-year-old Soldotna resident Shelby Gillins on the Kenai Spur Highway on Thursday.
According to the Alaska State Trooper dispatch, Gillins was traveling norhtbound at mile 3.5 of the Kenai Spur Highway on Thursday morning when she lost control of her vehicle. Several calls reporting the accident went into 911 at 7:53 am.
When Gillins lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt, she went sideways into the southbound lane and was struck by 56-year-old Kenai resident Sharon Efta, who was driving a 2002 Ford WIndstar.
Gillins was declared deceased at the scene.
Efta, who suffered non-life threatening injuries was transported to the Central Peninsula Hospital fro treatment of her injuries.
The Kenai Spur Highway re-opened at 11:30 am.
The investigation into the incident is on-going.
The State Medical Examiner was notified as was Gillin’s next of kin.
