A report of an aircraft emergency landing in the Saginaw Channel northwest of Juneau went in to the troopers on Sunday morning.
It was reported to troopers, that a PA-16 had taken off from the beach at Handtroller’s Cove, 16 miles to the northwest of Juneau. But, the aircraft encountered engine problems shortly after take-off.

Suffering from engine failure, the plane turned back around in an attempt to return to its starting location at the beach. But, unfortunately, the aircraft did not reach the beach and was forced to ditch in the water, when it did, it overturned.
As it was beginning to sink in the deep Sanginaw Channel, the occupants of the aircraft, two men and a dog, were able to escape the aircraft.
A fisherman in a vessel noticed the men yelling for help while in the water according to the report. The wet and cold men were retrieved from the water and transported to shore and re-united with the other members of their party.
There were no reported injuries, and all parties declined medical attention.
The aircraft sank in 450 feet of water.
The U.S. Coast Guard, FAA and the National Transportation Safety Board were notified of the accident and an investigation into the incident will be investigated further.
