Juneau, Alaska – The Alaska Legislature today voted to send a letter to every major gun and firearm accessory manufacturer in America telling them that Alaska is open for business, encouraging them to relocate here in light of the Lower 48s proliferation of new restrictive gun laws.
House Joint Resolution 12, sponsored by Alaska Speaker of the House Mike Chenault, also asks the Governor to tour the states and promote Alaska’s business-friendly climate and support for upholding the spirit and intent of the 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

“The message to gun and accessory makers is simple: we in Alaska value and appreciate what you do; we’re open for business,” Chenault, R-Nikiski, said. “There’s a movement afoot in the Lower 48 at the federal, state and local level to infringe on business by passing overly-restrictive gun laws. Alaska’s different. We strongly support the 2nd Amendment and are working to become one of the most business-friendly states in the Union.”
Copies of HJR 12 will be sent to 92 of the nation’s manufacturers, the National Shooting Sports Foundation, and the Governor.
HJR 12 passed the Alaska Senate unanimously today. It passed the House March 28, will be filed by the Chief Clerk and Lt. Governor.
