JUNEAU – Governor Bill Walker, First Lady Donna Walker, Lieutenant Governor Byron Mallott, and Mrs. Toni Mallott have extended an invitation to Alaskans to the Governor’s Annual Holiday Open House on Tuesday, December 6 from 3:00 to 6:00 PM at the Governor’s House, 716 Calhoun Avenue, in Juneau.
Built in 1912, the Governor’s House has hosted a holiday-season open house every year, with the exception of two years during World War II. Territorial Governor Walter Eli Clark started the tradition in 1913, with an open house on New Year’s Day.
“Donna, Byron, Toni, and I are pleased to continue this wonderful Alaska holiday tradition,” Governor Walker said. “This is a special time of year that brings together family and friends, and we look forward to celebrating with our neighbors and Juneau community.”[xyz-ihs snippet=”adsense-body-ad”]Commissioners and representatives from the various departments will be on hand to serve hot apple cider and holiday treats to guests waiting in line. Heaters will also be provided as a courtesy to those waiting outside, and the Salvation Army will have a donation kettle outside the front door.
Several music groups and individuals from the community will be performing during the open house, including Charter School, Faith Community, Auke Bay Orca Singers, Thunder Mountain High School Choral, Thunder Mountain High School Jazz Band, Juneau Douglas High School Band, Juneau Douglas High School Choral, Glacier Valley JAMM, Ursa Minor, Alaska Youth Choir, and Sherri Paterson.
