On his birthday, Alaska’s lone representative in Washington and the nation’s longest-serving GOP member of the House, got married.

82-year-old Don Young’s new bride is 76-year-old Anne Garland Walton. The couple was married in the U.S. Capitol Building chapel. Reverand Patrick Conroy, the Chaplain for the House of Representatives, officiated over the ceremony. They became engaged last summer.

This is Representative Young’s second marriage, his first wife, Lu Young, passed away in 2009.

Young has served in the House since 1973. He was re-elected to his 22nd term last election season.

In a statement after the ceremony, Mr. Young said, “Today, I’m happy to announce that my fiancée Anne and I have tied the knot. As I celebrate my 82nd birthday, Anne has given me the best gift anyone could ask for — her hand in marriage. She jokingly says I will never forget our anniversary.”
