ATLANTA, Georgia-The long awaited answer to the question whether the scandal-ridden campaign of Herman Cain for president has been announced today in Atlanta. Mr. Cain told reporters and the public, with his wife, outside of his headquarters that he will not continue his campaign.
The announcement took place outside of his campaign headquarters in Atlanta at 1:30 pm, after the scheduled 11 am appearance was postponed until afternoon. Meanwhile, a colorful crowd of spectators milled around for hours before his announcement.
Prior to his statement, Cain had made calls to some of his political rivals, although those camps declined to give any clues as to what transpired in their conversations with Cain.
Herman rose quickly in the polls after a successful showing in a poll in Florida, but his campaign has been confronted with accusations from four women of sexual misconduct. The latest scandal to break was of a 13 year affair with Ginger White. In the days after that news broke, Cain decided to go home to talk with his wife in Atlanta. Within 24 hours of that meeting he made his announcement. Even before the news of the affair, Cains poll numbers had began to drop, but after that news, his numbers went into a nose-dive. Likely Republican voters that said they would vote for him sits at a dismal 8%.
His decision was kept secret even from his staff up to the very last minute.
This news came just a day after Cain launched a new page on his website, “Women for Herman Cain.” the page is being hailed as “an online national fellowship of women dedicated to helping elect Herman Cain as the next President of the United States.” The national chairperson for Women for Herman Cain is his wife, Gloria Cain.
