Anchorage Inmate Dies from Hanging Injuries Sustained at Anchorage Correctional Facility

The inmate at Anchorage Correctional who allegedly attempted suicide died of injuries incurred during that attempt on Sunday, Alaska State Troopers reported via trooper dispatch on Thursdya.

An attempted suicide by 38-year-old Elijah Walker, an inmate at the Anchorage Correctional Complex was reported to the Alaska State Troopers at 4:20 am on February 11th. Walker was found hanging in the shower at the facility.

Court records show that Walker had been arrested on February 11th on a warrant for failing to appear for a mid-December court date for a June 2014 Driving with License Suspended charge. Later, after his arrest, Walker was discovered in the shower.

When found, CPR was performed on Walker and vital signs were restored. Walker was transported to the Alaska Regional Hospital, where he was placed in the intensive care unit. He was released from official detention from the correctional center the day after he was  taken to the hospital.

Walker passed away Sunday from injuries sustained on February 11th. Walker’s family were present at the hospital when he died. Walker’s remains were released to the State Medical Examiner’s office for autopsy.
