When they arrived at the scene, they found that 38-year-old Anchorage resident Jesus Mabalot had suffered punture wounds and scratches from a black bear attack.
The investigation would find that Mabalot had been drinking at a church bar-b-que and had after taken off on a bike. He encountered a bear while out on his ride and decided to give it some of his dinner. When he went to give it more of his food, the bear charged.
Mabalot was transported to the Alaska Regional Hospital to be treated from his wounds.
Authorities stated that the bear is not likely to be a threat to other campers, and the attack was an isolated incident.
Mabalot was given a citation for feeding game.
Mabalot’s bail was set at $310 in Anchorage court.
