While a victim of an avalanche was recovered after being buried on Wednesday afternoon, AST reports that the man, identified as 41-year-old Anchorage resident, Chad Christman, did not survive his accident.

Search and rescue operations were initiated at 3:41 pm on Wednesday after an avalanche swept through the area nine miles southwest of Whittier west of the southern tip of Blackstone Bay.

Christman was snowmachining in that area with friends when two of his friends say they saw Christman swept up in the avalanche. When the avalanche ended, Christman was located partially buried. “Two men and other people in the area were able to dig Christman out,” troopers reported in the trooper dispatch.[xyz-ihs snippet=”Adsense-responsive”]Following the avalanche, an RCC helicopter responded to the scene and picked up and transported Christman to an Anchorage area hospital.

Unfortunately, Christman did not survive the incident.

His family was notified of his passing.
