Anchorage Man Wanted for Shooting Another in Bicycle Dispute

Anchorage police identified an Anchorage man involved in a shooting in a dispute over a bicycle at the  Arctic Benson Park on Fourth of July evening it was reported on Nixle.

Patrol officers dispatched to the park located at 750 West 31st Avenue at 6:10 pm on the fourth to investigate a disturbance that included a shooting.

Their investigation at the location determined that a man and a woman got into an argument over a bicycle which led to three more people, a female, and two males, getting into the argument. At some point in the altercation, a male, identified as 50-year-old Daren Barnhart, producing a firearm which he used to shoot the male victim in the lower body causing minor non-life-threatening injuries.

After the incident, everyone fled the scene on foot.

Investigators say that the five subject in the dispute all knew each other. They also determined that while the dispute was alcohol-fueled, no drugs were involved.

A warrant for Misconduct Involving a Weapon has been issued for Barnhart’s arrest. Further investigation would find that Barnhart is the subject of a prior arrest warrant for failing to appear on an assault charge.
