With the stroke of a pen, the fate of Alaska would change in 1912.

On August 24th, 1912, President William Taft signed the Act brought to the U.S. Government from Alaska by Delegate James Wickersham.

While Wickersham was responsible for many advancements in Alaska, the signing of that Act was Wickersham’s foremost accomplishment.

Coincidentally, the signing of the Avt took place on Wickersham’s 55th birthday.
