Frequent Heartburn May Predict Cancers of the Throat and Vocal Cord

PHILADELPHIA — Frequent heartburn was positively associated with cancers of the throat and vocal cord among nonsmokers and nondrinkers, and the use of antacids, but not prescription medications, had a protective effect, according to data published in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Second Outbreak of Campylobacter Illness in 2013 Associated with Raw Milk

ANCHORAGE — The Alaska Section of Epidemiology is investigating another outbreak of Campylobacter infection associated with the consumption of raw milk. This new outbreak is associated with raw milk distributed by the same Kenai Peninsula cow-share program that was linked to a Campylobacter outbreak sickened at least 31 people in February 2013.

Colorado Resident Indicted by Anchorage Grand Jury for Perjury and Making False Statement

The Justice Department announced on Friday that as the result of a Homeland Security Investigation, a Grand Jury indicted a 61-year-old resident of Montrose, Colorado on one count of making a false statement to the United States and one count of Perjury. Both of those charges are felonies.

Sutton Man Shot and Killed in Officer Involved Shooting Thursday Evening

Alaska State Troopers reported via dispatch that an officer was part of an officer involved shooting in Sutton on Thursday evening.
