Kivalina Votes Yes For New School to the Northeast

KIVALINA, Alaska-Tuesday's election in the small Inupiaq community of Kivalina, resulted in an overwhelming "Yes" vote on the relocation of the aging school in the small northwestern community. The vote was 117-11 in favor of building a new school 7 miles to the northeast of the barrier island village in an area called Kisimagiuqtuq.

Russian Oil Tanker Renda Turns Back For Engine Repairs

BERING SEA-The Russian oil tanker, "Renda," hit a glitch last night as it began its historic trek to the northern city of Nome to deliver its cargo of 1 million gallons of diesel and 400,000 gallons of gasoline.

Representative Gara, Thomas Re-Instating Texting While Driving Ban

Today Reps. Les Gara (D-Anch.) and Bill Thomas (R-Haines) announced they are filing bi-partisan legislation to put Alaska’s strong anti-texting law back on the books. Recently a number of judges have questioned whether the existing law covers texting while driving, and have called for the law not to be enforced.
